Ryan C. Van Wyk, PsyD, LP (he | him | his)

My professional path has moved across clinical psychology, trauma treatment, behavioral health leadership, military service, leadership development, and organizational wellbeing. While these roles have taken different forms, they have increasingly brought me back to the same questions: What helps people remain connected to themselves and one another under stress? What conditions allow teams and organizations to function well? And how can leaders help create environments in which people can flourish?

I began my career as a clinical psychologist working with trauma, addiction, eating disorders, and complex mental health concerns. Over time, my work expanded from supporting individuals to leading clinical programs and multidisciplinary teams, developing trauma-informed systems of care, and helping organizations navigate change, workforce wellbeing, and culture.

Alongside my civilian career, I have served for more than two decades in the Army National Guard, first as a chaplain candidate and later as a behavioral health officer and clinical psychologist. My military roles have included supporting Soldiers in deployed and operational environments, advising commanders on behavioral health and readiness, developing leaders, supporting team cohesion, and leading behavioral health services across the Minnesota Army National Guard.

More recently, my work has increasingly focused on the intersection of leadership, human wellbeing, and organizational culture. Through leadership development, executive coaching, consultation, and training, my work has focused on how self-awareness, nervous system regulation, psychological safety, communication, and relational trust shape the environments in which people live and work.

Beyond the Professional Roles

Alongside my professional work, I am a longtime student of contemplative practice and Zen. I write regularly about the intersections of psychology, leadership, attention, care, and the ordinary experiences through which we come to understand ourselves and one another.

Across these different parts of my life, I continue to return to a shared question: How might we meet ourselves, one another, and the circumstances of our lives with greater presence, wholeness, and care?
